Known Superhuman Powers: Zeal possesses the superhuman power to entertain. When fully energized she has a mushroom cloud of zeal surrounding her and attempts to involve those around her in it. The precise technology involved in this is a mystery

Abilities: Zeal, an innovative strategist, is engrained in the inner-workings of camp logistics and deadlines, but is also the pivotal influence that brings the fun and adventure of Alpengirl to life! Excelling as a wilderness leader and mentor - Zeal sets an exceptional bar for all Alpenguides - and holds firm to qualifications and credentials that make Alpengirl outstanding! A life-coach to all: Zeal gently enforces examination of Self and succeeds through a profound application of coercive grins, spontaneous and exhilarating silliness - and a solid base of influence to unveil hidden potential in Alpengirls and Alpenguides alike. Her sphere of inspiration is wide reaching - an exponential wave that CAN change the world - one girl at a time.

History: The determined little girl that would become the inspiration and fun that IS Alpengirl is present in the heart of its life force. Zeal was born and raised in the Midwest (Iowa). Her propensity for the Rocky Mountain Region was realized at an early age through family ski trips and listening to John Denver tapes. She embraced the idea of living out her dreams in the mountains by choosing Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado, graduating with a biology degree in 1992. For the next several years, Zeal would find herself in pursuit of a platform for all of her education, work experience, life experience, and passion for the mountains. Alpengirl, Inc. (est. 1997) is a grand culmination of her experience as a Colorado teen camp leader, MountainFit Guide, USFS employee, volleyball coach, backpacking guide, BreaksAway Trip Leader, MSU Outdoor Leadership Instructor, Girl Scout Assistant Camp Director and troop leader, Youth Home employee, Big Sis with Big Brothers & Big Sisters, Bikram Yoga student and Red Cross certified Life Guard. Zeal has been a volunteer for the American Camp Association (ACA-Evergreen) board and is a member of the secret Alpengirl "A" team. Zeal has been creating Alpengirl trips and leading girls in outdoor pursuits for the past 15 years. Just about anytime, you can catch Zeal Blogging or Facebooking about Alpengirl to our girl summer adventure camp fans around the world.

Current Base & Operations: Bozeman, Montana. In her winter free time, Zeal can be found telemark skiing at Bridger Bowl, working on home remodeling projects with Joe, cross-country skiing with her dogs, testing new Alpengirl camp gourmet recipes, visiting with secret Alpengirl "A" team members in far away places, enjoying yoga and pilates classes and soaking in hot springs.

Known Superhuman Powers: Jenanigans is a super-human trickster. Don’t be fooled by what appears to be a calm and cool woman, she’s got a story, practical joke or curious natural object in her magic *satchel of shenanigans that she’s just waiting to share with you - surprise it’s Jenanigans!

*The Satchel of Shenanigans is a bag of curiosities that may include stories, jokes, mischief, songs, silliness and pranks. Items magically appear in the satchel of shenanigans as people around the possessor of the bag provide clues as to what they may need the most. How Jenanigans came into possession of the satchel of shenanigans is unknown at this time and is likely to remain a mystery.

Abilities: Jenanigans is naturally curious with an engaging personality and has the extraordinary ability to find adventure in any experience. These attributes, along with the satchel of shenanigans have proven to be a winning combination for Jenanigans and for those individuals and groups that are lucky to be in her vicinity to receive her gifts. Some of the gifts she has been known to provide to others are: a continuous smile no matter what the circumstance, hot drinks that seem to appear out of nowhere on a cold day, and a campfire complete with a guitar and a song. Her abilities have shown to be especially effective when performing camp office tasks such as telephone and online communications with campers, camp parents, and camp staff and when performing other camp logistical duties such as detailing trip itineraries and securing trip permits.

History: In her youth, Jenanigans was fully engaged in the practice of enjoying nature, she was often found outside turning over rocks and pebbles in the streams of Western North Carolina in search of exotic creatures such as salamanders and crawdads. She found daily happiness exploring the Appalachian mountains from sun up to sun down. When not exploring the mountains, Jenanigans could be found feeding the ocean waves with sand from her hands and turning over what ever she could find on the ocean floor on the coast of North Carolina. As a young adult and well on into adulthood Jenanigans curious nature led her farther and farther away from her homeland to distant locations such as Africa where she learned to carefully turn over rocks because the exotic creatures were much bigger over there, and to Europe where she discovered her love for history, historical artifacts and architecture, and to South America & Antarctica where she fully engaged her abilities in adventure travel. Jenanigans was eventually led by her curiosity to the Western US where she earned her BA degree in History from the University of Colorado at Boulder. While out west she worked as an outdoor instructor for the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS). Then, in the summer of 2006, an extraordinary thing happened to Jenanigans, she fell in love with Montana where she has worked as an operations manager at Adventure Life Journeys, as a lead wilderness guide for Girls Using Their Strengths, as a snowboard instructor at Big Sky Resort and as recreation leader for the City of Bozeman Recreation Department. Jenanigans is a certified NOLS Instructor, Leave No Trace Master & Wilderness First Responder.

Current Base & Operations:
Bozeman, Montana. Jenanigans is currently undertaking a new endeavor in graduate school at Montana State University and is working hard to earn her MS in Mental Health. In her free time she can be found snowboarding, trail running, practicing yoga, trying new recipes, climbing rocks, or enjoying outdoor adventures with her dog Emma and her husband Mike.

Known Superhuman Powers: What rare animal species breathes underwater, resists fire, stands upright and is at home in the fumaroles of Yellowstone National Park? The FAUM! She's a Fireproof, Aquatic, Upright, Mole! Following in the wake of her namesake, The FAUM possesses the power of adaptation. Rain or shine, you'll always see a smile on her face and the water bottle she carries is always "half-full" not "half-empty." The FAUM does have one known issue that drains her powers: she cannot stand the sound that Velcro makes!

Abilities: The FAUM is most celebrated for her ability to illustrate elusive, exotic animal species, more specifically, the FAUM. Using her power of adaptation, The FAUM can figure out a solution, no matter the situation. Too much down time? The FAUM carries a plethora of games in her fuzzy little paws.

History: Having found her passion for the outdoors when she, herself, was a camper at Alpengirl at 14, with Zeal as her guide, FAUM could not wait until she was old enough to share her gusto with other girls. She grew up camping with her family but it wasn't until that summer at camp with Alpengirl in Montana at age 14, that her future was decided. FAUM was an Alpengirl camper for many consequtive summers before she was an Alpengirl Intern for 2 summers and then became an Alpenguide and guided almost all Alpengirl trip locations for 5 summers before becoming Alpengirl Office Assistant (a year-round position) and Assistant Camp Director during Summer 2011. The FAUM graduated from Northern Arizona University in 2009 with her degree in Parks and Recreation Management, specifically Outdoor Education, and a minor in Photography. The FAUM is Wilderness First Responder, Life Guard, NAU Outdoor Leadership and CPR certified.

Current Base & Operations: Boulder, CO. The FAUM is currently working from Colorado to assist Zeal with Alpengirl office duties this winter. FAUM can be found baking or helping animals any day of the week.

Known Superhuman Powers: Zippy has the superhuman power to be two nearly opposite things at once... she can move fast and stay calm, she's enthusiastic and at the same time she's patient, she can crack a great joke while being encouraging, she is spontaneous and at the same time reliable. You'll know when Zippy is coming to save the day, just listen for her "whooshing" sound that precedes every Zippy appearance!

Abilities: Known for her highly motivational personality, Zippy whizzes past bystanders and enlists go-getters to join her in pursuit of health and fitness through outdoor adventure! Happiness tags along with Zippy's activities rain or sun, morning or night, winter or summer. If you fail to hear Zippy's "whoosh" when she's passing nearby, you are sure to hear her singing, she's able and willing to sing a song for any occasion!

History: At age 11, Zippy could be heard running (not seen running, she was way too fast) through the woods of Southeastern Connecticut. As a young adult runner and outdoor enthusiast, she dreamt of pairing her passions of fitness and outdoors when it came time to decide on a direction for schooling. She ran collegiate cross-country and track while attending a small university in New Hampshire where she earned her bachelors degree in Health Promotion & Fitness with an independent study in Outdoor Education. She was elected track Team Captain and focused her education on outdoor oriented wellness. Zippy worked as a High Ropes Challenge Course Director for youth in Connecticut before moving to Flagstaff, AZ where she received training in and was employed as a Challenge Course Team Building Facilitator, Youth Recreation Specialist, and Montessori School Teacher. Zippy holds current certifications in Challenge Course Facilitation, CPR, Wilderness First Responder (wilderness medicine), Lifegaurd and she is a Leave No Trace (LNT) Certified Trainer.

Current Base & Operations: When Zippy is not running around the woods with teen girls at Alpengirl, she works full-time as a Montessori Teacher in Flagstaff, Arizona. She incorporates an Outdoor Education Curriculum in her teaching and leads the kids drama club after school. When not working, you'll most likely find Zippy singing, running, hiking, backpacking, doing hours of yoga, camping, cooking Greek food or seeking a new hobby to take up. Zippy recently ran a half marathon and raised $1000 for the Girls On The Run organization. She'll be on an adventure travel trip in Thailand before camp with Alpengirl and she's recently taken up birding, canoeing and reading and writing young adult novels!

Known Superhuman Powers: Miss Grace Forward owns an alien "power prism", which to the casual observer could be mistaken for an average camera. When under pressure or facing challenging situations, the alien power prism gives Miss Grace Forward the superhuman power to stay calm and move forward with graceful cat-like movements.

Abilities: Miss Grace Forward has considerable expertise in her ability to carry her highly fragile alien power prism to any place and in any weather without ruining it (knock on wood.) She also specializes in impersonating funny voices and strange faces!

History: As a sporty youngster growing up in Georgia, Miss Grace was called Catherine. Catherine loved canoeing, competitive swimming and water-skiing, as well as team sports like basketball and softball. She spent much of her childhood building "forts" and riding horses and eventually competed for the University of Georgia on the Equestrian team while earning a Bachelor of Arts and English degree in Journalism and Magazine Photojournalism. Summers during college were spent in Wyoming working as a pack trip guide and horse wrangler or learning to rock climb with friends. It was sometime during these college years that Catherine obtained the alien power prism and discovered the superhuman powers that it provided to her. The circumstances under which Catherine obtained the alien power prism are unknown - what we do know is that she insisted on being referred to as Miss Grace Forward from this point on. After college in Georgia, Miss Grace Forward moved west and based herself in a place she loved, Wyoming. Her professional teaching and guiding experience includes leadership of adults and kids of all ages who are learning to rock climb, participate in wilderness horseback riding pack trips, or learning photography and creative writing. One of her most recent professional adventures was teaching photography to teenagers in a small village in France for a semester - and driving them around the winding, narrow roads of mountainous southern France! She has studied Spanish and French languages and is a lover of adventure travel. She has spent over six months traveling and climbing around the southwest. She's Wilderness First Responder and CPR certified.

Current Base & Operations: Jackson, Wyoming. In her free time, you can find Miss Grace Forward backcountry skiing and skate skiing in the winter, mountain biking and climbing in the summer, or hanging out with her scrappy little mutt named Bailey. She's currently studying Ayurvedic medicine, practicing lots of yoga, and exercising horses and caring for animals at a local farm. She teaches photography, video, and art projects for several nonprofit organizations based in the Jackson Hole valley. She also tutors aspiring photographers and writes outdoors-related articles on a freelance basis with clients that have included Backpacker and Sunset Magazines. In order to protect her identity from those who covet her alien power prism, Miss Grace Forward uses her former name Catherine Coe for business purposes. You can view her work at www.CatherineCoePhotography.com

Known Superhuman Powers: Bending, twisting, narrowly escaping danger through deep breathing and downward dog. After undergoing extensive tutelage from mental Masters in the high mountains of the Himalayas and the deep jungles of Indonesia, Sensai Stretch can erase fears and doubts of others with one deep inhalation through the nose.

Abilities: A dancer-turned-yogi, Sensai Stretch can turn even the most harrowing and exhausting days into uplifting learning experiences, giving her Alpengrasshoppers mental powers to overcome any obstacle they may encounter.  She also has secret Sensai Stretch-y moves that take any roadside dance party to the next level of awesome.

History: Before she was a Sensai and just a wee Grasshopper herself, Sensai Stretch grew up taming the wild suburbs of Rochester, NY with her three siblings.  While her two older siblings preferred lives of comfort (aka living indoors), Sensai Stretch and her brother looked for adventure in the outdoors around every corner.  From river rafting and camping on the Deschutes River, to hiking the high peaks of the Adirondacks, the two made a motley pair until they separated to live undercover lives as college students.  Sensai Stretch headed to Washington, DC to get a B.S. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University. After her first year of college, she taught third grade summer school and implemented a project-based learning program focusing on conservation. Sensai Stetch continued to teach dance through college, first focusing on tap and jazz to high school students, then falling in love with hip-hop and choreographing for Georgetown’s competitive hip-hop team.  Though college and the subsequent office job that came post-college derailed the Sensai from the active and natural world for a while, in 2010, she left her job in corporate event planning and set off for three months of backpacking through Southeast Asia with just her hiking boots and a huge sense of adventure.  From summiting the second highest peak in Indonesia to diving the deep reefs of Cambodia to surfing pretty much anywhere there was a wave, she returned to New York with an even greater respect for different climates and cultures around the world.  While in Bali, the Sensai became a certified 200-hr yoga instructor, and realized exactly how her passion for teaching and the outdoors could finally be united. Sensai Stretch is a certified yoga teacher, Wilderness First Responder, CPR certified, a licensed New York State Hiking Guide, and an Advanced Open-Water Scuba diver.

Current Base and Operations: To Be Determined.  After spending 40 days in the Himalayan backcountry, hopping around to visit friends in San Francisco and Portland, OR, Sensai Stretch is planning on forsaking her East Coast roots for ones a little further west.  Rochester will always be her hometown glory, but the life of an outdoor nomad means going when adventure calls!

Known Superhuman Powers: Wild Woman is something ancient that has survived. She has a super heightened awareness of self, others and her wilderness surroundings and is ready and eager to serve and empower those under her guidance.  In the wild, she is visible, yet invisible, she is Wild Woman, a Woman at home in the Wild.

Abilities: Wild Woman has a long list of abilities that allow her to be one with the wilderness environment, she is a wilderness survivor and has the skills to prove it! Elk tracking, woodworking, blacksmithing, plant identifying and artistic interpretation just to name a few.

History:  At a young age, Wild Woman was influenced by strong women with a passion for the natural world. Wild Woman lived in Kentucky on a horse farm that her mom built from the ground up and on vacations Wild Woman enjoyed going on hikes amongst the high alpine lakes of California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains with her grandmother, a fourth generation apple farmer.  As a teenager, Wild Woman attended high school in Wisconsin and spent many days wandering the rolling woodlands of the glacially carved Kettle Moraines. Lewis & Clark College brought Wild Woman to Portland, Oregon where she studied Painting and Fine Arts and earned a degree in Studio Art. In college, Wild Woman’s art brought her deep into clearcut forests to paint the changing light on the new bare landscapes. In the Pacific Northwest Wild Woman has solo hiked while tracking elk, led children and adults on day long silent wilderness walks and on moonlit snowshoe hikes around Mt. Hood. These treks and professional leadership experiences have taught Wild Woman more about life and the lives of others than a book could ever teach, Wild Woman is very much at home in the wilderness. Wild Woman is a certified Interpretive Guide and Wilderness EMT.

“I am honored to be able to be present at moments in girls’ lives where their perspectives can shift, their minds can expand, and new bonds with friends and the environment are forged.” ~ Wild Woman

Current Base & Operations: Portland, OR. You can find Wild Woman busy doing things like blacksmithing, making knives, chopping wood, painting landscapes and animals, night snowshoeing, running in the rain in the woods with her dog, biking backroads (cyclocross) and just looking around under stumps and things in her backyard - an old growth forest.

Known Superhuman Powers: Montana Gal is “mountain born and wilder than a springtime storm in the Rockies!” Montana Gal has the superhuman power to collect the energy of atmospheric disturbances (such as springtime Rocky Mountain storms) and channel it into any situation needing a positive energetic, motivated and creative force.

Abilities: Montana Gal has considerable athletic prowess as a rock climber, skier, swimmer and runner and has expertise in her ability to gather and share interesting Montana facts and information with inquiring minds.

History: Spending her youth in the special place where the mountains meet the badlands, Montana Gal has grown to be a proud Montana native. The majority of Montana Gal’s childhood memories are of the times she spent taking advantage of all the outdoor activities that this wonderful place has to offer with her vast extended family. Most of these times were spent exploring the foothills of the Rocky Mountain Front and shorelines of Northern Montana’s lakes and rivers, along the way battling rattle snakes, scaling hay bales, collecting rocks, playing with crawdads, and testing the kid/dog capacity of canoes with her 20+ cousins. In her adolescent years, Montana Gal perused any and all opportunities that placed her in or around water, this led to a 10+ year stint as a lifeguard and swim instructor. The countless hours spent teaching swim lessons eventually morphed into a career as an outdoor educator. Following her passions for education, kids and the outdoors Montana Gal has taught in a multitude of settings including teaching Irish kids (not leprechauns) in Ireland, unlocking the mysteries of the thermal microbial mats of Yellowstone, even transforming into a Mathmagician for a few years. Montana Gal has traveled to over 20 countries! Most recently she took a whirlwind trip to South America with stops involving swimming with penguins, sharks, sea lions and turtles in the waters of the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador, trekking the less traveled trails of the high Andean peaks of Peru to Macchu Picchu and watching wolrd-class performance of a Vivaldi opera in Montevideo, Uruguay.  She has taught courses for kids such as “Montana Mountaineers” which introduces kids to backcountry travel, “Eco-Arts” where kids integrate nature with sculpture, water color and music, and “Headwaters Crossing,” an exploration of local rivers by canoe and learning about the Corps of Discovery.  Montana Gal has earned her Masters degree in Science Education from MSU and is certified in wilderness first aid and CPR.

Current Base & Operations: Alder & Bozeman, MT. Montana Gal currently teaches grades 3-6 in a two room school house in Alder, MT. Often during the winter you may find Montana Gal skiing and zipping down the steep chutes of the Bridger Ridge.
