Montana Summer Weather, Temperatures & Elevation

Elevation of the camp arrival airport; Gallatin Field Airport, is 4,400 ft and the highest elevation that girls may experience during camp is under 11,000 ft. A majority of our time at camp together is spent at elevations of between approx. 5,000-7,000 ft. There is almost always a place to find remaining snowfields in the mountains of Montana at camp with Alpengirl in the summer, we will often seek them out for Alpenolympic fun and games! SW Montana summers are generally pleasant with warm days and cool nights with an occasional afternoon rain shower that can be accompanied by thunder, lightening, hail, or snow. Humidity is rare. Average July highs range from 79 F - 89 F and the temperature rarely reaches over 100 F at higher elevations. Temperatures will vary as much as 10 - 15 degrees with altitude.

Alpengirl camps in Montana are at a higher elevation than most campers are accustomed to and the chances for sunburn and dehydration are increased here. Alpenguides will be encouraging girls to keep hydrated and wear sun protection (sunscreen, lip balm, hats, etc) throughout camp in Montana.

Alpengirl’s Montana Camp Travel Routes (& Roots!)

Alpengirl’s roots are in Southwest Montana. This is where our unique adventure camp for girls was created and where most of our trip itineraries take place.

Our Alpengirl home office is in Bozeman, Montana, which is conveniently, located less than 10 miles from the airport where most campers will arrive and depart from for camp in Montana.

The adventure travel routes we take during our girls camp trips in MT typically start and end in Bozeman.

In pursuit of outdoor adventure we’ll be on a contiguous loop route that includes enjoying adventure sports and activities in mountainous wilderness areas near small towns like Big Sky, Ennis, Sheridan, Dillon, Livingston, Gardiner and West Yellowstone.

These small local towns are quick stops along the way that provide us with fresh groceries, showers and laundry and sometimes a rodeo, parade or local festivity.

Some of our Montana travel routes even explore a bit beyond the Montana borders into parts of Idaho and Wyoming.
