Highlights

The Camp Itinerary

Tidepools in Olympics National Park - Washington

Day 1: Arriving at SeaTac International Airport in Seattle, WA, your Alpenguides will greet you and introduce you to the rest of your group for general camp introductions before hopping in the van for a 4-hour drive away from the big city to our first campsite in Olympic National Park. We’ll have lots of travel snacks, good music and “getting to know you” games while we drive.  Upon arrival to our campsite, we’ll learn how to set up our tents and enjoy the first of many delicious and fresh camp gourmet meals before our first evening of tent camping with new friends. Camping near Forks, WA.

Day 2-4: Yoga in the morning. Backpacking leisurely along the beach for 3 days and 2 nights.  An introduction to backpacking includes learning how to properly pack, adjust and carry your backpack. We’ll lighten our load and only pack essential clothing, food and gear. Then, leaving our van and extra gear behind, we'll grab our cameras and backpack about a mile and a half up the beach.  We’ll camp here both nights with a full day of Alpenolympics, ocean splashing, sand castle building and tide pool exploration in the middle. The tide pools here are one of the world’s richest, most diverse habitats for intertidal marine wildlife.  Girls will have an opportunity to build a campfire on their own and cook a campfire meal and finish it off with s’mores! Let’s have our Alpenolympic talent show entertainment tonight around the beach campfire!  The third day will bring us back out to the van and we’ll head for Lake Crescent where we will splash and swim and have a bucket hair washing Alpenolympic competition!  Camping near Port Angeles, WA.

Note: Yoga is an integral part of all Alpengirl camp itineraries and the start to most days.

WA Lil's Ready for Rainforest Backpacking

Day 5-6: Enjoy a 4-mile (one way) overnight backpack trip starting in the rainforest and ending at Deer Lake in the heart of Olympic National Park. After hiking back down the next day, we’ll have our last hooray together soaking at Sol Duc Hot Springs followed by showers and making our own camp pizza’s for our end of session awards ceremony.  Camping near here.

Day 7: Departing from SeaTac International Airport in Seattle, Washington.  See you next summer!

Itinerary Campsites & Amenities

3 nights are spent in tents in public “front country” campgrounds where we have pre-assigned campsites with neighbors and campground hosts nearby, running potable water, and private outhouses or flushing toilets.

3 nights are spent in tents in wilderness “back country” areas where we will purify our water before drinking and learn and practice basic Leave No Trace camping skills such as how to select a campsite and how to go to the bathroom and keep clean outdoors.  A private outhouse is available to us.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a sample itinerary. Alpengirl reserves the right to cancel or alter any aspect of our program, including program itinerary, trip dates, activities or location, as a result of unforeseen circumstances, including weather, environment, or health hazards. To the best of our ability, substitutions of activities will be comparable to, or better than the original activity.

Why This Camp ROCKS!

Washington Lil’ ALpengirl camp is just for 11 year olds and it’s a quick camp that allows you to try adventure camping on the beach and in the rainforest to see how you like it before committing to a longer camp next summer at Alpengirl.
