Aspen
Known Superhuman Powers: Aspen is able to tap into superhuman levels of Aspen Tree Power to grow deeply rooted communicative connections between individuals in her camp groups. Aspens crowning achievement this summer will be to see that each lil’ Alpengirl camper shoot digs deep to find a belief in herself that she is strong and can tackle new challenges, make friends, be part of a supportive group and make wonderful memories for a lifetime that shimmer like aspen leaves in the wind!
Abilities: Aspen’s abilities include, but are not limited to, delicious and nutritious backcountry baking, leading fun games on the trail and finding every opportunity to break out into dance. She’s also great at identifying plants and wildlife, and creating toasty campfires. Even when things don’t go to plan, you can count on Aspen to find a way to make everyone laugh in any situation!
History: Aspen grew up in Arlington, Virginia, just across the bridge from Washington, D.C.! Her love of nature and camping began at a young age when she joined her local Girl Scout Troop and went on annual camping trips.
In middle school, Aspen joined the cross country team and discovered her love for running. She loved cross country because she got to race on trails and run through forests and creeks! In high school, Aspen and her family moved to Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic and Aspen started attending boarding school up in Rhode Island. After graduating, Aspen moved to LA to soak up the sunshine and attend Occidental College, but with the start of the pandemic, she decided to take a break from zoom school and go on a gap year!
In her gap year, Aspen completed a semester in the Rockies with the National Outdoor Leadership School, going on adventures of backpacking, and rock climbing in Utah, whitewater rafting, kayaking and canoeing down the Green River, and horse packing through the Red Desert of Wyoming. During her semester, Aspen grew a deep appreciation and love for the outdoors, as well as a passion for backpacking and outdoor education.
Now, Aspen is taking her love for the outdoors to the classroom, and studying hard in order to protect the outdoors by pursuing her degree in Environmental Science. Aspen is Lifeguard, Wilderness First Responder and CPR certified, and is a Leave No Trace Educator.
Current Base & Operations: Bellingham, WA. Studying Environmental Science at Western Washington University. When she isn’t studying, she loves to go trail running, swimming, rock climbing, as well as bake yummy treats and reading. She’s also planning for her first long distance thru-hike on the John Muir Trail this fall!
