Known Superhuman Powers:  BaLou’s got the Bear Necessities, Mother Nature's recipes! Her superhuman power is the ability to encourage growth and connectivity with her calm and nurturing spirit. She uses the power of her trusty unicycle to radiate her bright and bubbly bear vibes of positivity and patience. With BaLou, you can’t help but forget about your worries and your strife!

Abilities: BaLou is the ultimate recreational bear buddy for people of all abilities! She’s the bear that’s always there, and encourages people to step out of their comfort zone by providing a safe space, which makes growth inevitable when spending time with her. Above all else, BaLou loves to share her positivity and outgoing attitude, always providing a fun time!

History: Wherever she wanders, wherever she roams, BaLou couldn’t be fonder of her home!  She grew up in a small, agriculturally based town in Eastern Washington. Living the first years of her life in the rolling desert hills, her love for nature stems from sweet days catching critters down by the river and in the irrigation ponds. As a young cub, BaLou realized that water is the hub of life, and she set a goal to swim in all five of the world's oceans! Since then, she has swam in the Pacific, Indian, and Atlantic oceans! Moving to the lower North Cascades in high school, she honed her recreational skills. Having a ski hill twenty minutes away, seemingly endless trail systems, and many rocks to climb, it was always hard to keep this curious bear indoors! Inspired by her new access to nature, she made a commitment to herself that she would help more people have the opportunity to experience the earth’s beauty and power. Now BaLou studies Outdoor Recreation at Western Washington University, where the ocean is right in her backyard! This community-based program is rooted in social justice and helps BaLou grow everyday inside and outside of school! In 2017 she studied abroad in Nepal and learned about medicinally used herbs and eastern medicine. During this time, she also did a 30-day backpacking trip! She helps create safe backcountry experiences by having certifications as a Wilderness First Responder, CPR, and LNT Trainer Certification.

Current Base and Operations: BaLou is currently based out of Bellingham, Washington pursuing a degree in Outdoor Recreation. You might find her embracing her playful spirit outside with friends, swimming in the Puget Sound, hiking in the Chuckanuts, or cooking up a storm with her friends. And if you spot BaLou riding her unicycle to and fro, you can bearly help but smile!
