Ember

Real Name: Erica B
Occupation: Alpenguide, Ski School Instructor, Sea Kayak Guide
Aliases: Silly Ricki, Blue, Erica Bearica
Birthplace: Issaquah, WA
Age: 23

Known Superhuman Powers: Ember possesses superhuman levels of Spark Power! She can ignite a passion for outdoor adventure in any camper gathered ‘round the glowing embers of her campfire.

Abilities: “Code Red! Activate the fire alarm, we need a stage 3 fire restriction for Ember, she is all fired up and has leapt up into spiraling silly jumps and is beginning to burn up the Alpengirl Talent Show stage with her goofy song and dance, this Alpenguide is lighting up the night!”

Yes, many times Ember is energetically enthusiastic but she can also simmer down and maintain a slow burn in order to adapt to what others need. She’s caring and mindful of each member of the group and aware of the overall energy as a team and takes steps to make sure everyone is having a good time. She has the ability to inspire confidence, she encourages people to try new things and she is supportive of others. She has spent many days recreating and leading in the outdoors and has the ability to create community and happy memories in any terrain and weather, especially those that are challenging.

History: Born and raised in the Cascades of Washington, Ember has spent her life trying new outdoor recreation and spending as much time as possible outdoors. Living in the foothills of the mountains, she grew up ski racing at Snoqualmie Pass, hiking trails along the 1-90 corridor, biking at Duthie Hill and playing soccer for the local team. Through this active lifestyle, she embraced the importance of making time to be in the outdoor elements as well as taking care of our healthy bodies.

When she was 18, Ember moved to Bellingham, WA where she found there is incredible access to all forms of recreation and beautiful views in every direction. At Western Washington University she found the degree that lines up with her love and passion for being in the outdoors; Recreation Management and Leadership with and emphasis in Sustainable Tourism. With this degree she hopes to increase accessibility to recreation, educate the importance of sustainability and provide space for youth to learn tips and tricks of outdoor recreation in order for them to feel comfortable being outside in the long run. This was sparked by the idea of learning outdoor wilderness skills from her family and realizing not having an easy avenue to learn valuable skills is a big deterrent to being drawn to being outside. She is super excited to be a role model for young girls and encourage them to learn all the skills they can!

Throughout the years in Bellingham, Ember has guided sea kayaking trips in the San Juan Islands, coached Girls on the Run teams, worked with the YMCA, educated herself in Wilderness Medicine and Avalanche safety, instructed skiing at Mt. Baker and worked along side the Rental Shop Staff. Ember hopes to continue working in the outdoor industry for many years to come and continue to encourage others to be active and in the elements! Ember holds Wilderness First Responder and CPR certifications.

Current Base & Operations: Bellingham, WA. During the winters you can find her skiing (alpine and backcountry) in the Mt Baker Wilderness, shoulder seasons riding her mountain bike and hiking and in the summers, guiding for Alpengirl! :)
