Known Superhuman Powers: The collaborative and energetic Malia Bee uses her bee superpowers to bring groups together in a shared sense of community. She’s a busy multi-tasking bee who’s uniquely talented in also being able to stop and smell the flowers.
Abilities: Malia Bee is able to meet people where they are at, in all levels of outdoor skills and confidence. She is communicative and encourages each individual to perform to the best of their ability. Like honey bees, she loves dance parties, has the ability to find sweetness in all situations, and thinks working in an all-girl hive is the best way to bee.
History: Malia Bee grew up in southwest Montana where she was lucky to have spent most of her time outdoors with her family. In high school she spent a semester in Southern Africa with a place-based semester high school for girls; The Traveling School which impressed upon her the importance of experiential education and the need to critically engage with our surroundings. After high school she went to the University of Vermont and studied environmental science with a minor in math and geography. There, she gained a deeper appreciation of fall colors, maple syrup, and Cabot cheese. Malia Bee further cemented her love for place-based learning when she spent a semester with the Wild Rockies Field Institute backpacking and canoeing through the Colorado Plateau. Since graduating college Malia Bee has moved back to her hometown and has been working at Montana Outdoor Science School where she teaches students around the valley about the land they live on and the different ecological processes present. She has also spent the last four winters ski instructing and helping all ages and levels of skiers gain confidence and increase their skills. Malia Bee is Wilderness First Responder and CPR certified.
Current Base & Operations: Bozeman, Montana. Malia Bee is currently skiing as much as the snow will let her and then will switch to hiking and trail running in the spring and summer. In her down time she also enjoys reading books that she seldom actually finishes. She is excited to work with Alpengirl and share her love of the outdoors with other awesome girls!
