History: Childhood family vacations to Solana Beach, CA provided the initial burst of energy that formed Starlights lasting love for all that shimmers in the great outdoors! There she played in the waves, explored the tide pools, built sand castles and developed an enduring love for the ocean. When it came time to go off to college, she found it only fitting to be by the water. She attended Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington. Her passion for youth and nature led her to double major in Recreation and Environmental Education. When she wasn’t in class, you could find her sailing FJ’s on Lake Whatcom. For three years she competed on the college sailing team and served as a co-captain her senior year. With her sailing team she competed in regattas all over the Pacific Northwest and beyond, her favorite being the one in Hawaii. Her love of sailing led her to becoming a certified instructor. During the school year she taught PE classes for the university, and during the summer she taught at local organizations on Bellingham Bay. After college she decided to trade in the overcast Pacific Northwest weather for the sunshine of Southern California. She worked as an instructor at an outdoor science school, where she got to spend her time introducing kids to nature and teaching them all about science. With an itch to see somewhere new for the summer, she ventured to Wisconsin to lead wilderness trips for an all girls camp. Alongside adventurous young ladies, she canoed the Namekagon River and Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and backpacked on Isle Royale National Park. During these trips she loved seeing the girls pushing themselves out of their comfort zones and working together as a team. After the summer, Starlight decided to see the world and spent two months backpacking in Europe with one of her college roommates. She loved exploring different cities, trying new foods, and learning about the cultures. Starlight is a certified Wilderness First Responder, Lifeguard, and Leave No Trace Trainer.

Current Base and Operations: Cambria, CA. She is currently working as a naturalist at a coastal institute that provides experiential outdoor education to school groups.
