From the Alpenguides Laura M & Katie T ~
Camp has been going really well so far. We have had great sunny weather and the girls are high energy and bonding well. We have 5 returning Alpengirls who are all really excited and enthusiastic about camp and about helping the other new girls learn the ropes of camp.
Yesterday Ruby was our LOD. She did a great job of leading the group and games as well as being on top of all of her responsibilities as a leader. Our cook group last night was Meredith M., Olivia, and Sammie. They made beef teriyaki stir fry. For breakfast we had strawberry stuffed French toast, which was a big hit. For lunch we had turkey sandwiches and popcorn.
Yesterday we day hiked to the Goose Rock Summit. We had gorgeous views of the islands that we're going to be kayaking to starting tooday. We even saw a seal in the water diving for food. The girls really enjoyed hiking and talking to each other on the trail, getting to know each other more.
In addition, yesterday we picked skill beads today. Ruby is going for the fire bead, the wilderness first aid bead, and the group living bead. Kaile is going for the wilderness first aid bead and the cook bead. Shalom is going for the wilderness first aid bead, the cook bead, the group living bead. Abby is going for the first aid and cook beads. Meredith G is going for the water bead and the cooking bead. Olivia is going for the fire bead and the cook bead, as well as the group living a bead. Meredith M is going for the wilderness first aid bead, the cook bead, and the group living bead. Sammie is going for the yoga bead and the cooking bead. Anaya is going for the water bead and the first aid bead.
The girls have been eating well and all are participating in conversations with others in the group and we are all really excited for our 3-day overnight sea kayaking trip in the San Juan Islands that starts today afternoon. The girls are hoping to see more seals and other wildlife and get to feel how awesome it is to move on the waters of the Pacific NW.
We’ll catch up with you again after Tuesday after the kayaking trip ends and before we go rock climbing:)
