Pre teen Girls Camp WashingtonWe had a beautiful first evening at our campground. The girls did a Charades Alpenolympic Event where they acted out different elements of the introduction to camp living talks. We also had a delicious M & M treat and getting to know you game after our Welcome Burrito dinner and watched a beautiful sunset and we made it into our tents just as the stars were peeping out.

Yesterday morning we had our first yoga overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca and then enjoyed Strawberry Stuffed French Toast breakfast with fresh nectarines. Leader or the Day (LOD) Abi helped us have fun with games as we finished up our camp talks and the girls declared their skill beads. Then we packed our day bags and headed out for several hours of tide pooling down on the rocks, we had three teams complete the Alpengirl scavenger hunt of tide pool creatures and objects and saw many urchins, sea stars, crabs and sea cucumbers! Since every team completed their scavenger hunt we had a tiebreaker where are the girls acted out an invented whale species. The winning team was Gretchen, Emily and Katie. After that we had a picnic lunch on the beach of turkey sandwiches, veggie straws and bananas. Then we put on our swimsuits and got in the ocean, and explored some different areas of the beach. After swimming, the girls were lead by their LOD(Emma)in the choosing of some of our menu for the rest of the camp session. Katie started working on her Navigation Skill Bead, and Nora, Thea, Ari, Emily and Emma began planning for their Yoga Skill Bead. Abi plans to earn her Fire Skill Bead, Gabi will be focusing on her Cooking Skill Bead, and Ellie and Gretchen will be doing the Wilderness First Aid Skill Bead.

Last night the Cook Group (Thea, Ellie, Nora and Gabbi) prepared a Teriyaki Beef Stir Fry dinner with a stuffed apricot appetizer. Katie was happily surprised by the Artist Care Package, and all the girls enjoyed writing a postcard and munching on some brownie brittle. We also had a hilarious costume contest Alpenolympic Event. Katie stole the show as an Alaskan Squirrel Hunter. We had an early night to bed being lulled to sleep by the sound of the ocean waves.

This morning we enjoyed yoga and have a full morning of getting all properly packed up for backpacking that starts today after lunch in the Hoh Rainforest. We will be celebrating Katie’s birthday, and she is our LOD for the first 1/2 of today! Ari will be our LOD as we hit the trail in the afternoon for the 2nd half of today.

We’re doing great!
