What Happens at Summer Camp in the Wintertime?
Wed, 01/15/2020 - 08:00
Winter arrived early this year in Montana (it was below zero by Halloween!) and mornings often reveal a dusting or dumping of new snow on the ground. Through these snowy months, we find ourselves balancing opposites: mixing cozy time indoors cooking, connecting with friends and family, and drinking gallons of tea, with various outdoor pursuits: alpine and nordic skiing, tromping through the snow with the dogs, or the occasional hot springs soak under the bright midwinter stars!
Our Alpenguides are scattered near and far during the winter months, pursuing their passions and living lives of hard work, learning, creativity and adventure. Curious Chameleon is finishing up a master’s degree in social work, bringing her warm spirit, compassion and spunk to her internship placing. Bear Cat has had to add many layers to her wardrobe for a relocation to Fairbanks, AK where she guides tours on a reindeer farm, and is becoming an adept cross country skier! Spruce is working in education as well, lending her bright smile and teaching know-how to school programs at the Seattle Science Center. And Little Fish continues to charm the smallest citizens of the Gallatin Valley through her ballet classes and teaching french to local elementary students. True to her name, she is not afraid to wade into any of our nearby rivers for an afternoon of fly fishing (despite the tiny icebergs floating by!)
Camp Director A-Girl and Assistant Camp Director Cindy Lou Who are holding down the fort at the Alpengirl office under the loving gaze of the Summer 2020 master calendar. Their days are full of welcoming campers new and old as registration continues, talking with the many wonderful women interested in joining the dynamic Alpenguide team, and planning the summer’s many activities and adventures. Cindy Lou Who continues to bake, and teach and practice yoga, and A-Girl enjoys the winter weather with her two fluffy sidekicks, and enables Cindy Lou’s baking addiction!
They are excited for lengthening days, the continued coming-together of an amazing team of Alpenguides for 2020, and for each and every girl who decides to adventure with us next summer. For now, wear appropriate layers, get some fresh air, and keep your adventurous spirit warm through the winter!
