Horse ii Alpengirls Raft the Madison After all the campers arrived to the Bozeman airport the Horse II crew galloped off to camp next to the beautiful Madison river! The girls were giddy to get to know each other and enjoyed some getting to know you games at the campground. The Alpengirls spend the evening learning from guides Serena (“Bam-Bam”) and Arlee (“Hyle Girl MacGee") about tent camping, leave no trace principles, and natural hazards! The girls ended the first day with smiles on their faces and tummies full of the classic welcome to camp burritos, yum!!

Morning yoga has been a delight and Lia has showed us her knowledge of cobra pose variations, we are excited to learn more from her yogi expertise. Abby took charge during the first Alpenolympic event where the girls learned to dig cat holes for proper waste disposal in the backcountry. Another Alpenolympic competition, microtrash pickup, was won by Lia!  From there it was time to start rafting the river. Vanessa was out superstar leader of the day, helping get everyone prep for rafting and safely load into their boats! On the water Mari was a superstar at steering the rafts down the Madison scouting for rocks and directing the boats.

After the wonderful time on the river the girls headed back to camp and Rielly taught the group how to play ninja, a fun experience for all! Norah and Kennedy both helped with the first camper made meal and cheffed up a delicious teriyaki chicken dinner for everyone! Dinner included a optional goat cheese appetizer, girls were reluctant to try it until Victoria provided words of encouragement getting the group to try something new!

That evening Kate took the lead in helping everyone stake down tents during a wild wind storm that challenged the strength of our tent poles. The Alpengirls handled mother nature's fury great and through teamwork the tents were secured!

Everyone woke up this morning excited that the wind had ceased and thrilled to be one day closer to the start of horsepacking. Today is a special day at camp for Abby who is having a birthday with us! The Alpengirls are headed to Wade Lake for the night for some fun in the water before a evening of celebrating and birthday treats. Look for the next blog post on Tuesday the 29th after the girls are done with their horsepacking trip!

P.S. Yellowstone Horse Camp II parents-the staff call day will be on the evening of Monday June, 28th to update you on how your campers are doing!
