A Summit Success!

Tue, 07/12/2022 - 01:58

We are back from our amazing backpacking trip in the North Cascades! We began our hike in the afternoon after learning how to properly pack and adjust the backpacks. Tillie led the way down our firsts switchbacks and kept us laughing with lots of trail games. Even though it rained, we still enjoyed a campfire and Oreos before our first night at camp.

The next day we hiked farther up the lake near Roland Creek. Sasha found a shady spot for lunch and set a steady pace for us. Despite the bugs, we held a successful Alpenolympic Best Nest competition. Katie, Ella S., and Ella B wowed us with their sleeping pad couch/coffee table creation!

Our third day brought us closer to the water. The campsite was a great spot for a whale breaching contest, where Maddy braved the cold water and dunked her headfirst! Our next day was a shorter hike along the water. It was the perfect place for our North Cascades Talent Show. Ruby and Lauren reminded us of bear safety with a hilarious skit. Laughs, songs, and dances ensued all evening.

Neva enjoyed her turn as LOD. She stayed upbeat the entire day and helped us get organized for our biggest hike! We left at 6:30 AM to summit Desolation Peak, and Daniela blew us away by leading us up the steep seven miles to the top! We agreed that living in the fire lookout tower would be amazing. We made it back to camp by 6:45 PM and all enjoyed some hot cocoa before a well-earned early night. This morning started with a slow yoga practice and some time to journal on the beach. Ella S. led us on our last climbs and kept spirits high with a game of “Would You Rather.”

We are so excited to climb, ride, and kayak over the e next few days, and couldn’t ask for a more intrepid, positive group of girls to adventure with!
