Alpenhey from the Montana Minis crew!

We have just returned from our backpacking trip in the Tobacco Root Mountains and taken some hard-earned showers. Our backcountry experience was a resounding success and we learned lots of backpacking tricks. Led by camper Mary, the members of our team working toward their navigation skill beads helped us to interpret the map and make choices at trail junctions. Sabina and Mila taught us loads of songs that made our time hiking on the trails fly by. At camp, Helen and Molly helped out the group by becoming bear safety aficionados; they joined our guides each night to hang our “smellies” and food high in the trees. Tessa, Lyla, and Emery helped remind us all of important safety tips after earning their Wilderness First Aid skill beads.

We also all learned to purify our water bottles and enjoyed some delicious food - the AlpenOlympic Talent Show night Mac n’ Cheese was especially a hit! For the talent show, the whole group came together through skits and rehearsals to put on an entertaining backcountry performance. Taryn and Macey showed off their acrobatic prowess, while Kenzie and Frieda helped their friends to execute a truly funny skit about an Alpengirl vs “Camp Bluey” rivalry. We enjoyed some hot cocoa and cider the final evening to close things off and reflected on the leadership of each team member who had been assigned an “L.O.D”, or leader of the day, position during the trip. Every single member of our group showed grit and improved their outdoor skills during this exciting part of our session. Now, we are readying ourselves for some hot springs relaxation and exploration of nearby Bozeman. Can’t wait to see you all soon!
