Washington Girl HikersThe Columbia Cascades and Coast Alpengirls have completed a challenging and great backpacking adventure! The past few days the girls have enjoyed 4th of July fireworks on the beach, significantly cooler weather (and no rain!), and a really cool surf lesson - nearly everyone was able to stand up! While wearing the surf wet suits, the girls participated in an Alpenolympic event called "Best Ninja Roll", and Alex came out as our winner. Mary prepared an amazing meal for us that she planned on her own. She made grilled chicken with a balsamic parmesan vinaigrette with steamed vegetables over a bed of brown rice. Coco made us breakfast to earn her cooking bead yesterday morning. She made scrambled eggs, toast, turkey bacon, and a side of blueberries and strawberries. All of the other girls are on their way to earning at least one of the beads that they chose. We roasted marshmallows over the stove because campfires are not allowed with the current fire ban in Washington. Girls have enjoyed playing different games such as contact, mafia, talking in funny accents, saying names of fruits while covering your teeth with your lips, and telling plenty of jokes and riddles. Now that the end of camp is approaching and the challenge of backpacking is over, the staff is working with the girls to reform best group dynamics. We anticipate a great finish to camp, and girls will be calling home sometime tomorrow afternoon.
