Introducing the 2019 Alpengirl Camp Staff
Wed, 05/29/2019 - 17:28
Our adventure camp leaders, also known as “Alpenguides,” are the number one reason girls choose Alpengirl! They are more than just counselors or guides - they are role models, mentors, educators, friends, and they truly love working with our all of our Alpengirls! The Alpenguides are passionate about getting girls involved in the outdoors, and are excited to be a part of a community of strong young females.
Our Alpenguides offer a valuable variety of personalities, backgrounds, and superhuman powers, but they do share a few things in common: a passion for outdoor adventure, great rapport with teenagers, and a desire to have an awesome summer! They are seasoned outdoors-women with professional certifications and extensive experience working with youth. Their dedication to FUN is second only to their dedication to keeping our girls safe this summer!
Our 2019 Alpenguides are ready and counting down the days until the first day of camp. These inspiring women are currently working as ski instructors, counselors, photo archivists, bakers, and teachers of everything from French to yoga to guitar to dance classes to environmental stewardship, conservation, and ecology. (Can you tell they like to spend time with young poeple?) In just a short time, they will converge from across the country and world in Bozeman, MT for a weeklong staff training.
Here are a couple highlights from our crew: (Want more? Go check out our “Meet the Alpenguides” page)
Sunny K has lived in a plethora of beautiful places: she grew up in Michigan, attended college in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and now resides in Bozeman, where she is finishing up her degree in Elementary Education. She loves hanging out with kids, and in the winters, teaches youngsters to ski in Big Sky.
Viva was born and raised in Puerto Rico and and has spent the last 11 summers attending Alpengirl as either a camper, intern, or guide! She has a true passion for biology, ecology, and botany, and spent her past year studying abroad and exploring in beautiful Mexico.
Bear Cat has spent the last several years living and dancing in Seattle, WA while leading the teen programs at the Woodland Park Zoo. Her curiosity, creativity, and encyclopedic knowledge of the natural world (and her superhuman hiking pace) make her the one of the best adventure leaders in the Pacific Northwest.
Cindy Lou Who is the Alpengirl assistant camp director as well as an Alpenguide and professional baker. She stays out of trouble during the winter by teaching yoga, staying involed in the local pastry scene, and skiing in her rad purple onsie!
Starlight, our resident mermaid, is porbably just as comfortable on the water as you are on land! From sailing in the Pacific to canoeing in the land of a thousand lakes, she's done it all. She is a traveling outdoor educator and experienced guide who currently lives in sunny California, where she teaches outdoor education and coastal conservation to school groups.
Mama Bear came from sunny California but now calls Montana "home." She is currently studying family and consumer sciences, helping out in local classrooms, and jumping on her skis at every spare moment, truly embracing the climate of her adoptive home!
Curious Chameleon comes to Alpengirl from far-off Pennsylvania, where in addition to studying to become a social worker, she has completed the Long Trail in Vermont, earned her 200 hour yoga teacher certification, and positively impacted too many lives to count (where does she find the time?) She is a biking, cooking, community-loving force for good.
Spruce currently lives in Washington, she has been bringing joy to others through guitar lessons for teen girls, her leadershing in her a capella group and ultimate frisbee team, and as a guide leading backpacking trips for her peers. As her studies wind to a close, she'll be turning her considerable array of talents, as well as her certifications as a Lifeguard, Leave No Trace instructor, and Wilderness First Repsonder, toward work as an environmental educator.
Little Fish has spent the past winter delighting elementary students as a ballet teacher and as an instructor for an after school french program in Bozeman, MT. During the off-season she has also become a force to be reckoned with on her snowboard, and never lets the outside termperatures prevent her from going fly fishing on the local rivers. Who knows, maybe you'll come home from camp knowing the french names for all your campig gear?
Bright Eyes's life experiences read like and Alpengirl trip itinerary: horseback riding, rock climbing, backpacking, canoeing...is there anything she can't do? On top of her leadership and outdoor experience, Bright Eyes is also a photographer, and has spent the past year working as an archivist on beautiful Lopez Island, WA. She is one talented lady!
Our Alpenguides can’t wait to meet you!
