Alpengirl's Mother Daughter Kayak trip took off from SeaTac yesterday and headed out to start their adventure at beautiful Deception Pass!
We were granted gorgeous views of the Cascades along our drive while listening to great music, and getting to know each other 🙂
After arriving at our campsite, we learned how to set up our tents, and ate our traditional welcome burritos. We played a gummy bear get to know you game, and after a long day, we got ready to rest up for our first full day of adventure!
We began our first full day of camp by waking up to birds singing, did some alpenyoga, and enjoyed a breakfast of blueberry pancakes, chicken sausage, and scrambled eggs. We then packed our bags, applied our glitter (!), and set out for an amazing day hike. Our hike started on the beach where we had our first Alpenolympic event — the stone skipping competition.
We continued on through the forest over Deception Pass bridge and to a stunning viewpoint of mountains and ocean surrounding us. To make this hike even more magical, three eagles soared right above us, putting on a show for these mother and daughter bird lovers.
After an enjoyable hike, we returned to our campsite for a greek pita lunch cooked up by a mother daughter pair. Our lunch was accompanied by yet another bird — a great horned owl and its chicks sat right above us and watched us as we ate.
After lunch, the moms took some mom time, and the daughters headed to the beach to work on their skill beads and enjoy the warm sun. Campers built shelters, competed in sand sculpture Alpenolympics, and dipped their toes in the water before heading back for dinner. Our moms cheffed up chicken, couscous, and broccoli for dinner!
We finished off our night by working towards more skill beads with a campfire, as well as the necessary s’mores to go along with it.
It has been a magical beginning of our trip filled with stories, birds, and beautiful scenery.
Now we are ready to hit the water and start our backcountry kayaking!!!
