Surfs Up for Cascades and Coast IIB!

The Cascades and Coast trip is coming to an end and we’ve made so many wonderful memories.

After our backpacking trip, we spent a restful day exploring Cape Disappointment. We went up North Head Lighthouse, learned its history and hiked some of the nearby Discovery Trail. In the evening, we enjoyed teriyaki stir fry and headed to the beach for some fun and games. We opened up a care package and laughed while putting on our silly new costume accessories. Afterwards we played Frisbee on the beach while the sun set over the ocean.

The next morning, we packed up our stuff and headed to our first day of surfing! After getting suited up in our wet suits we carried the surf boards down the lush forest trail to the beautiful cove of Short Sand Beach. We practiced our surf moves on the sand first and then jumped on in the water to get started. Our instructors helped us all get up on our boards and we had such a blast!

That evening we had s’mores around the campfire and reflected as a group about the Alpengirl experience and how strong and supportive this community has been.

This morning, we took a trip to Haystack Rock on Cannon Beach to explore the tide pools during low tide. We found star fish bigger than our hands, green sea anenomes and sea slugs! After tide pooling we walked downtown Cannon Beach for some souvenir shopping and refreshing smoothies.

This afternoon, for day two of surfing we get to go out a little further and catch some awesome afternoon waves. Everyone is getting more comfortable with surfing and having so much fun!

Tonight we’ll wrap up the session with a pizza party, awards ceremony and skill bead necklaces! What a special trip this has been of lifelong memories and new friends.
