The Yellowstone Horse I crew had a fantastic time in the backcountry, enjoying every minute of their horsepacking adventure!

Throughout the last few days, they learned new skills including tacking up their horses and how to navigate the mountainous terrain on horseback. They were excited to learn about cooking and starting a campfire in the backcountry. They had blast finding a peaceful place to set up their tents in wildflower meadows among the mountains and supported each other thoroughly throughout the trip. They spent lots to time getting to know the quirks of each of their horses throughout the first few days in the backcountry. We stayed in two beautiful camp sites throughout our 5 day trip with a perfect weather throughout. The campers learned how to navigate rough terrain while packing in and out of camp. Our day trip rides took us through meadows and wildflower fields with beautiful views along the way.
The second campsite consisted of lots of games and two alpenolympic events. We had an exciting talent show full of special talents. Holly showed us her crocheting skills, Liesel, Sophia and Emma performed a dancing and singing routine. Hannah performed a mathmania act. On our fourth day we did a fabulous day ride to the Continental Divide Trail where the campers looked for fossils among the rocks along the trail, an activity that Leah especially loved. In the evening we worked on our skill beads – Sophia and Liesel created a very cute fairy house for their shelter bead. Mila, Wolf, and Leah each built a campfire. Emma and Mackenzie have each led morning yoga showing off their skills and creating a new pose. Hannah has been an excellent chef, and Grace and Mackenzie have been sharing their horse skills with the other campers. They have been hard at work, but are getting along so well, and are all willing to lend a helping hand.
The girls are looking forward to hot showers and laundry this evening after 5 days in the backcountry, and can’t wait to explore Yellowstone and the Tetons in the upcoming days!
