Canoeing, Kayaking, and Stand Up Paddle Boarding

Pair outdoor physical activity with natural relaxation. Bask in the sun on calm water while enjoying paddling, swimming, viewing nesting osprey, discovering mysterious underwater grasses and spying a moose in the willows.

What are canoeing, kayaking, and stand up paddle boarding?

Canoeing, kayaking, and SUPing are fun and refreshing water-based adventures on calm lakes or slow-moving rivers. These activities involve paddling, balancing, and sometimes playing games or practicing yoga on the water. Whether you’re gliding in a canoe, steering a kayak, or balancing on a paddleboard, these sports offer a mix of relaxation, teamwork, and excitement, perfect for beginners and experienced paddlers alike.

A typical day starts with a warm breakfast before packing essentials like a swimsuit, sunscreen, and lunch. After meeting guides at the water, campers are fitted with safety gear and given a briefing on technique and safety. Activities include learning paddle strokes, racing kayaks, practicing SUP yoga, and enjoying splashes and swims. Groups take breaks to relax, have lunch, and participate in fun water games, all while soaking up the sun and enjoying the great outdoors.

No prior experience is required. Many participants are trying these activities for the first time. Alpenguides provide thorough on-shore instruction on technique, gear, and safety before anyone gets on the water. Beginners are paired with experienced partners or Alpenguides, ensuring everyone feels comfortable and confident.

Confident swimmers thrive on our canoeing, kayaking, and SUP adventures. Come ready with a swimsuit, sunscreen, a water bottle, and a positive attitude. Practice basic swimming skills if you’d like, but non-swimmers and beginners are fully supported. Review camp materials in advance and be prepared to learn new skills, like paddle strokes and watercraft stabilization, during the trip.

Safety is our top priority at Alpengirl. Please visit our Safety page to learn more.
